It would be a mistake to believe that the money sloshing around DC isn't eroding democracy. There are papers dedicated to illustrating how the laws passed now are almost exclusively in service to corporate lobbyists and well-funded interest groups. There are numerous initatives that have the support of 2/3 of voters that will never be enacted... mostly because they're easily tarred as liberal initiatives.
