I always wonder if these people realise that their actions say, "I'd rather my child was dead than had autism."

I'm sure, with the various base-rates available, it would be possible to state the relative risks of each outcome and then extrapolate how much more preferable death is to these parents. I'm pretty sure that, put like that, most people would find the decision hard to justify.
