I also suspect that a lot of Trump voters are former Democrat supporters. However, contrary to your suggestion that they were exasperated by Obama and certainly not going to take Hillary to their hearts after the 'deplorables' comment, in reality a lot of white, blue collar workers voted against Obama as they feared for their jobs in an Obama-led drive for working-class equality.

The precariousness of the low-skilled blue collar worker is such that a shift towards greater equality would be a potential existential crisis. Hillary was not sufficiently different to bring them back.
